FAQs

When is it time to replace my roof?
There are several signs to look for when determining the need for a new roof. You may notice loose or missing shingles, cracked, curled or rotted shingles. You may also detect water stains inside on ceilings. Any of these suggest that you may have serious roof problems.

Age is also a factor. Any roof that is over 10 years old should be routinely checked for possible damage. By checking both inside and outside your home you can detect any signs of roof problems.

Weather conditions can also affect your roof. Problems can be caused by extreme humidity, high winds, hail, ice, snow, or improper ventilation. Severe weather can damage or loosen flashings around chimneys, skylights, and vents, which can damage shingles and cause leaks.
How can I choose the right contractor?
Selecting the right contractor can be the most important factor when replacing the roof. Be sure to ask the right questions. Make sure your roofing contractor is a reputable, licensed contractor. Don't take chances with amateurs. Hire a professional contractor who is fully licensed and insured.

Find out how long your contractor has been in business. Ask for references and call them. Ask about the labor and manufacturer's warranty. Make sure to get a written warranty. However, even a written warranty can be useless if you can not get in touch with your contractor after the job has been completed. Make sure to check references.
How do I choose the right roof for my house?
From wood to fiberglass or from tile to slate, there are many kinds of roofing materials to choose from. In selecting yours, keep in mind what looks best with your home. About 65% of American homes have asphalt shingle roofs for good reason. They provide performance, low maintenance and affordable price.

Your choice of roof color is important because it can affect the overall appearance of your home. A light colored roof creates a spacious look, especially if your home is light colored. A darker roof gives a home a cozy look, particularly if your home is also dark. If your house and roof are very different in color, the effect can be dramatic. Another factor to consider is that dark colors absorb the sun's rays while light colors reflect them. Depending on which region of the country you live in, this may influence your decision. Of course, because an asphalt roof lasts for many years, people often select a neutral tone that coordinates with most house colors.
